Coimbatore: A daily wage labourer was arrested on Tuesday for hacking a 48-year-old wall painter to death near Anaimalai on Ambarampalayam-Athupollachi Road here on Monday night.
According to police, the incident took place when V Krishnasamy, of Athupollachi near Anaimalai, was returning home from Sungam after work. “When he neared a bakery at Sungam, M Pasupathy, 24, of Ambarampalayam, who was creating ruckus in the area under the influence of alcohol, assaulted Krishnasamy with a sickle, killing him on the spot,” the officer said.
On Tuesday morning, Krishnasamy’s sister K Pappathi, 55, of Athupollachi, lodged a complaint, stating her younger brother hadn’t returned home on Monday night. Meanwhile, her neighbour Sivaraj came across the body of Krishnasamy and alerted her, the officer said. Preliminary inquiry revealed that Pasupathy had beaten up several people near the bakery at Sungam and spread terror in the area by wielding a sickle. Pasupathy was subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody.tnn
