Mumbai: Three days after an elderly woman died after being run over by a motorist who did not know how to drive, Kandivli police have established her identity and traced her family. Lukma Jaiswar, 65, was headed to a local temple when the crash occurred last Friday.
The motorist, Surendra Gupta, was later arrested along with his friend, Rajendra Gupta, who had given him the vehicle and was supposed to guide him from the adjacent seat.Besides Jaiswar, the car had hit two male pedestrians who escaped with injuries.
Jaiswar’s body will be handed over to her family. Police said she lives at Poisar in Kandivali. Her husband does electric work. Her two sons are based in New Delhi, while her daughters are based out of Mumbai. Surendra told police he hit the accelerator instead of brakes. tnn
