Thiruvananthapuram: The state govt is firmly committed to completing all phases of the Vizhinjam International Port construction on schedule as this project is set to significantly enhance the Kerala‘s economic as well as infrastructure development, ports minister V N Vasavan said here on Friday.
“By 2028, Vizhinjam International Port will boast the highest installed capacity of any container terminal in India,” Vasavan said.He detailed the construction costs, totalling Rs 8,867.14 crore, with the state govt contributing Rs 5,595.34 crore.
The Adani company is investing Rs 2,454 crore, and the Centre is providing Rs 817.80 crore. Vasavan highlighted that the Vizhinjam Port will attract an additional Rs 10,000 crore investment to Kerala.
He emphasised that the completion of the project’s first phase is a significant achievement, despite numerous challenges, including the Ockhi cyclone, unusually high waves, the Covid-19 pandemic, the Tauktae cyclone, and local protests.
“The comprehensive development of the state is becoming a reality through this project,” Vasavan said.
He referred to the vision of the renowned poet Pala Narayanan Nair, stating, “Kerala is growing, climbing, and crossing the Western Ghats, reaching out to other countries.”
The minister affirmed that the state govt is dedication to fulfilling the promises made to the people of Kerala, ensuring that the development dream through Vizhinjam is realised.
