MUMBAI: Two men were arrested by Amboli Police in connection with the break-in at actor Anupam Kher‘s office in Andheri West recently. Among cash and other belongings, the duo had stolen a negative of film ‘Maine Gandhi ko Nahi Mara,” starring Kher. Police have recovered the negative and will probe for what purpose did the accused steal it.
In the intervening night between June 19 and 20, Kher’s office at Azad Nagar was broken into.The actor has been operating the three-room office on the first floor for the past three decades. The accused stole Rs 4.15 lakh in cash, an iron safe, a black bag and another bag containing the film’s negative, collectively worth Rs 4.19 lakh. The break-in was reported to the police by the actor’s accountant, Pravin Patil.
Police had retrieved CCTV footage which showed clear grabs of the two accused fleeing. Based on the images and their informant network, police tracked down the duo. They were identified as Rafiq Shaikh, 35, and Mohammad Dilshad Khan, 30. A majority of the stolen cash is yet to be recovered. Police said the accused have a prior criminal record and had broken into a few other establishments as well.
The actor had earlier tweeted about the burglary with a video clip of the door that was broken.
