Police on Monday registered three separate FIRs against residents of Samrala and Machhiwara for posing with weapons on social networking sites. The same comes in the backdrop of the state government already having banned flaunting weapons on the internet.
In the first case, the Samrala police have booked Jaspreet Singh of Balio village. The accused had posted his pictures with weapons on his Facebook account.
The second case, meanwhile, was registered against Ishwar Singh of Manupur village in Samrala as well. The accused had also posted pictures of himself posing with the weapons on Facebook.
Inspector Bhindar Singh, station house officer at the Samrala police station said that police have taken serious note of the state government’s ban on flaunting weapons on social networking sites. He added that police are constantly scanning social media websites to keep a check on violations.
The SHO said police found pictures of weapons on social media accounts owned by the two accused and registered two separate FIRs against them under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code. The police initiated a manhunt for the arrest of the accused.
The Machhiwara police also booked Navdeep Singh of Adiana village for posting his photographs on Instagram with a weapon on Instagram.
Notably, Ludhiana rural police had on November 19 booked singer Tari Kasapuria, producer Satta DK of Bhaini Darera village of Raikot and owner of Love Music Company for releasing a song promoting “gun culture”.
After back-to-back killings in Punjab — in Amritsar and Kotkapura — the state government had taken some preventive measures to deter misuse of weapons.
