Udhagamandalam: Tourism minister K Ramachandran on Wednesday conducted a meeting with the Nilgiris district officials to review the functioning of the public distribution system (PDS) in the district.
Attended by district collector M Aruna and other department officials, the meeting reviewed stocks at the PDS outlets, status of applications for new ration cards, ways to enhance public distribution system further through biometric system and status of applications received for part-time PDS shops in the district.
Ramachandran instructed the officials concerned to take immediate steps to redress the complaints related to non-supply of ration items. “Each taluk level supply officer should conduct surprise checks at the PDS shops falling under their purview for a smooth supply of food grains. There are reports about shortage of kerosene supply in the state. The government is taking all steps for allotment of more kerosene to Tamil Nadu.”
