MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police have registered a new case related to the firing incident outside Salman Khan‘s residence in April and have arrested a 25-year-old man from Rajasthan named Banwarilal Laturlal Gujar on charges of criminal intimidation, according to a crime branch official.
Gujar had allegedly uploaded a video on his YouTube channel while on a highway in Rajasthan, in which he stated, “Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar and other gang members are with me and I am going to kill Salman Khan as he did not apologise yet.”
Given the gravity of the case, a team was dispatched to Rajasthan to investigate, and they apprehended the accused.The case has been registered at a cyber police station in Mumbai. The official said, “We are checking if accused Gujar having any previous criminal background. He has been arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 506(2) (punishment for criminal intimidation), and provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Further investigation is underway.”
In the early hours of April 14, two men on a motorbike fired multiple rounds outside Salman Khan’s residence in Bandra. Six people were arrested in connection with that case, one of whom, Anuj Thapan, allegedly committed suicide in police custody on May 1.
In a separate case, Navi Mumbai Police arrested five individuals, including an alleged member of the Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gangs from Haryana, in connection with a plot to attack Salman Khan. According to the police, four gang members had conducted reconnaissance at Khan’s farmhouse in Panvel, the area around his Bandra home, and locations where he was filming.
Lawrence Bishnoi is currently incarcerated in the Sabarmati Central Prison in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, for a different case, and Mumbai police will seek his custody through the court. His brother Anmol, who is believed to be in Canada, has been named as a wanted accused in the firing case.
