Coimbatore: A BJP functionary was booked on Thursday for creating a ruckus at a luxury car showroom in the city, and assaulting the manager, in an inebriated state.
The accused has been identified as Johnson Jayakumar Christopher, 51, of KRG Nagar in Ganapathy. He was engaged in real estate business.
Police said N Arunkumar, 32, of PLS Nagar at Chinniyampalayam in the city, works as a sales manager at a luxury car showroom at Neelambur.He lodged a complaint with the Sulur police alleging that Johnson visited the showroom around 6.45pm on Thursday, fought with the showroom staff, and slapped Arunkumar.
On December 21, 2023, Johnson paid 3 lakh in advance and booked a BMW X7 car from the showroom. While the car was supposed to be delivered on June 7, it was delivered only on June 10.
Johnson had argued with the showroom manager over the delay, after which the latter provided him with car accessories worth 3 lakh as compensation. However, he returned on Thursday and picked a quarrel with the staff.
Based on the complaint, Sulur police registered a case against Johnson. Further investigation is on.
