Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday (September 8, 2025) laid the foundation stone for Godavari Phase II and III, in Gandipet to enhance supply of drinking water to Hyderabad and for rejuvenation of Musi river.

Currently, around 580-600 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) is supplied to the city from various sources, including Godavari Phase-I. The two new phases are aimed to add 300 MGD to the city, to meet the future water needs — which is projected to be 835 MGD by 2027 and 1,114 MGD by 2047.

The water for the new project would be drawn from Mallannasagar Reservoir. Of the 20 Thousand Million Cubic Feet (TMC), 17.5 TMC will utilised to provide drinking water to the city and the remaining 2.5 TMC to fill up twin reservoirs Osmansagar and Himayatsagar for Musi rejuvenation.

IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Labour Minister Vivek Venkataswamy and others participated in the programme.
