Binoy Viswam says that there are some officers in the police force who do not understand the essence of the LDF’s police policy.
Communist Party of India (CPI) Kerala unit secretary Binoy Viswam has said that officers who act against the police policy of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government would face exemplary punishment.
Speaking to media persons in Alappuzha on Monday (September 8, 2025), Mr. Viswam said that when an issue arose, immediate action could not be taken without a proper inquiry. “In cases where complaints are raised against police officers, the government would conduct an investigation and, if the officer is found guilty, exemplary action would be taken. The government is capable of bringing such officers under control,” the CPI leader said, adding that the Left came to power by resisting and defeating custodial oppression.
He said that officers, including an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) who secretly visited an Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader, did not understand the essence of the LDF’s police policy. “There are still officers in the police force who do not follow the government’s police policy. That is why a police officer went to meet an RSS leader,” Mr. Viswam said.
The CPI leader noted that ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar had been removed from the charge of law and order. “Kerala has witnessed incidents such as disturbances during the Thrissur Pooram and the ADGP’s failure to answer the Minister’s phone call. A person who committed such serious lapses will not rise to the top levels of the police in Kerala,” he said.
Ayyappa Sangamam
Mr. Viswam said that devotees could take part in the Global Ayyappa Sangamam being organised by the Travancore Devaswom Board. “The CPI has no interest in making Ayyappa a centre of political controversy. The CPI’s policy is not to bring Ayyappa into politics. Matters of Ayyappa and devotion are the rights of the devotees. Ayyappa is a people’s deity. For those going to Sabarimala, there is a common dress code, a vow for all, and before proceeding, they visit Vavar’s mosque and take part in the Petta Thullal ritual. This deity has its own distinct traditions. The Communist Party of India will respect the rights of devotees and their religious beliefs,” he said.
