An AIADMK cadre and supporter of the party’s general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami lodged a complaint with Salem district Superintendent of Police (SP) on Monday (September 8, 2025) alleging that Gobichettipalayam AIADMK MLA and former Minister Sengottaiyan’s supporters made life threats through phone calls.
A.B. Manikandan, a resident of Nilavarapatti, submitted a petition at the SP office on Monday. In the petition, Mr. Manikandan said that he is a lawyer and has been in the AIADMK party since 2011. As a lawyer and political commentator, he participates in television debates in support of Mr. Palaniswami.
On September 4 and 5, he took part in a television debate and made remarks about former Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan. After that, he started to receive calls allegedly from Mr. Sengottaiyan’s supporters and they claimed to kill him and also threatened to hurl bombs at Mr. Palaniswami’s house too, he added in the petition.
Speaking to the reporters after submitting the petition, Mr. Manikandan said that he received more than 30 calls from Mr. Sengottaiyan’s supporters and their mobile numbers were mentioned in the petition.
“They verbally abused me and threatened dire consequences for his comments about Mr. Sengottaiyan. They claim they will also attack Mr. Palaniswami’s house after killing me. All the people spoke in the same manner. The police should identify them and take stern action against them. The police should register a case against Mr. Sengottaiyan, who allegedly triggered his supporters to speak against him and to give threats, Mr. Manikandan added.
