A team of police personnel from the Elamakkara station here have left for Mumbai to take into custody filmmaker Sanalkumar Sasidharan who was detained at the Mumbai airport based on a lookout circular issued against him in a case pertaining to the alleged harassment of a woman actor on social media.

The award-winning director reached Mumbai on Sunday from the U.S. where he had been reportedly staying for a while even as he kept claiming on social media that the actor was facing threat to life from ‘a mafia’. The lookout notice was issued in a case registered on a complaint filed by the actor in January.

Police action questioned

District Police Chief (Kochi City) Putta Vimaladitya on Sunday said that Mr. Sasidharan would be taken into custody and questioned. “Further action in the case will be based on the questioning,” he said. The Elamakkara police said a team of two police officials had left for Mumbai to take him into custody. Mr. Sasidharan, in a series of social media posts, on Sunday, questioned the police action against him. He said he was being shifted to Sahar police station from the airport.

Mr. Sasidharan was arrested by the Kochi police on charges of stalking the same actor in May 2022 and granted bail later.
