The Tiruvottiyur All Women Police on Sunday arrested a 20-year-old daily wage labourer for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Old Washermenpet.
According to City Police, the girl, a Class IX student, became acquainted with Sanjay, a resident of Davidson Street in Broadway, through social media. On September 2, she left home for school in the morning but did not return in the evening.
After searching at several places, her parents lodged a missing complaint at the Tiruvottiyur All Women Police Station. Investigation revealed that the girl was in a relationship with Sanjay, and the two had gone out together. Sanjay’s mother informed the police that her son had taken the girl to Marina beach. The police traced them near the beach.
Sanjay was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded in prison.
