The busy Tower Circle and other shoba yatra routes in Karimnagar reverberated with “Ganesh Maharaj Ki Jai” slogans as the Ganesh idols immersion procession passed through the main thoroughfares in the city amid elaborate security arrangements late on Friday evening.
Over 500 police personnel, aided by CCTV camera surveillance, closely monitored the passage of the shoba yatra along its designated routes in the city limits up to the immersion points — the water bodies at Manakondur, Kothapalli and Chinthakunta — till late in the night.
Around 100 additional CCTV cameras have been installed all along the procession routes and at the immersion points as part of elaborate bandobust arrangements for the Ganesh idols immersion fete. The live feeds from the CCTV cameras were monitored by the police from the Command-and-Control Centre.
The shoba yatra commenced at Patha Bazar in the city at around 6.30 p.m. A special puja was performed at the Ganesh pandal on the occasion. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Karimnagar Collector Pamela Satpathy and Police Commissioner Gaush Alam were among those present.
Scores of people, mainly youth and children, turned up in large numbers to witness the impressive shoba yatra, featuring colourful Ganesh idols, on myriad themes, along the yatra routes in the city limits.
