Excise officials in Hyderabad have made seizures of illicit liquor and ganja in separate operations, arresting four people and recovering contraband worth several lakhs.
In Malkajgiri, 47-year-old Veer Swamulu was arrested for illegally trading army canteen liquor. Acting on a tip-off, excise officials raided his residence on ECIL Road. They seized 50 liquor bottles valued at around ₹1.50 lakh along with his two-wheeler and mobile phones.
Officials said Swamulu had been procuring bottles through contacts with army canteen beneficiaries and selling them in the open market. He was taken into custody and shifted to Malkajgiri excise station.
In a separate series of operations targeting narcotics, excise teams seized ganja in Nampally, Rangareddy and near the MGBS bus stand. A teacher named Sachin was arrested while selling ganja from a house in Afzal Sagar, Nampally, where 500 grams of the contraband was seized.
In another case, 510 grams of ganja were seized from a man in Rangareddy by the enforcement team.
The largest haul came near the MGBS bus stand, where officials from the State Task Force (STF) intercepted a woman named Elamma travelling on an RTC bus from Hyderabad to Amangal. She was found carrying 150 ‘bales of ganja’, each weighing 20 kilograms.
