A Grade I constable attached to the Srimushnam police station has been placed under suspension on charges of assaulting a Special Sub-Inspector of Police of the Andimadam police station in Ariyalur district. The constable, identified as R. Vijayakumar of Periyathuruchi, has been arrested.
According to the police, the constable’s mother Malarkodi had lodged complaint with the Andimadam police on August 28, saying Vijayakumar frequently assaulted her over a property dispute.
Special Sub-Inspector of Police N. Ramesh issued a Community Service Register (CSR) on Malarkodi’s complaint and called Vijayakumar on his mobile phone for an enquiry.
The constable, who was on security duty for the Vinayaka Chaturthi procession, absented himself from work and assaulted the SSI at the Andimadam police station. Following a complaint, a case was booked against Vijayakumar under Sections 296 (b), 131, 132, and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar ordered the suspension of the constable for misconduct. He was arrested and remanded in custody.
