Members of the Tamil Nadu Retired College Teachers Association (TANRECTA) organised a demonstration on Wednesday (September 3, 2025) demanding a rectification of certain pay scale anomalies.
The members said that the UGC recommended a higher starting scale of ₹14,940, and though it was granted to government college teachers in 2018, teachers of aided colleges were denied that benefit. Moreover, the government has not revised the pension of government college teachers based on the higher start. Another one of the demands pertained to pay scale anomalies that allowed junior faculty members draw more than senior members.
D. Balasubramanian, president, Federation of Central Government and State Public Sector Employees Organisation, P. Jeyagandhi, former National Secretary, All India Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations, V. Swaminathan, president, TANRECTA, and A. Manoharan, General Secretary, TANRECTA, spoke on the charter of demands.
