Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Tarannum visited rain-hit areas on September 2 to take stock of crop damage in Kalaburagi, Shahabad and Chittapur taluks following heavy rains in August.

In Kalaburagi taluk, the DC inspected pigeon pea crop loss on the land of Nitish Sharanagouda at Nandur (B) village. In Chittapur taluk, she inspected the green gram crop of Vittal Yamuna Rathod in Wadi village, cotton crop loss of Sheshamma Ninganna in Halakatti village, and pigeon pea damage on the land of Ratnamma Siddanna.

In Shahabad taluk, she visited Ravoor village and saw the black gram crop of Gurunath Manikappa, pigeon pea fields of Devindra Dharmanna and Heerabai Ramachandra. She also assessed pigeon pea crop damage in Malagatti village belonging to Sundar Manohar and Sharanappa Keshappa.

The DC interacted with farmers and heard their grievances.

Later, she inspected the water purification plant on Jewargi Road in Shahabad town, and directed officials to ensure supply of safe drinking water and prevent contamination.

She visited Old Shahabad to gather feedback from local residents and elected representatives about rain-related civic issues.

Pointing out that pigeon pea, cotton, green gram and black gram crops had suffered heavy losses in Chittapur and Shahabad taluks, the DC instructed revenue, horticulture and agriculture officials to conduct a joint survey and submit a detailed village-wise report. She cautioned officers not to leave out any eligible farmer while preparing the assessment.

Assistant Commissioner (Sedam) Prabhu Reddy, Joint Director of Agriculture Samad Patel, Chittapur Tahsildar Nagayya Hiremath, Shahabad Tahsildar Neelaprabha, CMC Commissioner K. Gurulingappa, assistant directors of agriculture and horticulture and other officials accompanied the DC during the visit.
