Demanding a reduction in the number of camps held under the Ungaludan Stalin programme and urging the filling of 564 office assistant vacancies, members of the Tamil Nadu Revenue Officials’ Association (TNROA) began a 48-hour strike and staged a protest at the Collectorate premises in Salem on Wednesday (September 3, 2025).

Led by V. Arthanari, State Deputy Secretary of the association, the members said they play a key role in implementing the government’s schemes across the State. However, they claimed they were unable to perform their duties effectively due to various constraints. They noted that five camps are currently held every week under the Ungaludan Stalin programme, making it impossible to take action on petitions within 45 days. They demanded that the number of weekly camps be reduced to two, with more volunteers posted at each camp and adequate financial allocation provided.

Other demands include the filling the 564 vacancies, recreating 97 posts across all districts for disaster management work, creating a new post of Deputy Tahsildar in all taluks to oversee Ungaludan Stalin and other special government schemes, and increasing the pay scale for all staff. Mr. Arthanari told reporters that 650 staff in the district had boycotted work, affecting overall departmental services.
