Two villagers were killed by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, police said on Tuesday (September 2, 2025). With this, the total number of civilians killed by Maoists in Chhattisgarh this year has touched 36.
Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran S. Chavan confirmed the murders. The duo had been identified as Devendra Padami and Padam Pojja, both residents of the Nandapara area of Sirsetti village under the jurisdiction of the Kerapal police station, Mr. Chavan said.
“The police have been verifying the inputs and taking further legal action in this connection. Details of the incident will be shared later,” the SP said on Tuesday (September 2, 2025) evening.
On August 29, a ‘shikshadoot’ (temporary visiting teacher in government schools), was abducted and killed by Naxalites in Bijapur. Another ‘shikshadoot’ was killed in a similar incident in Sukma district on August 27.
The site of the latest killing was nearly 5 km from the nearest police camps, Mr. Chavan said. Due to scattered populations and terrain challenges, providing security cover was difficult, he added. Such incidents occurred mostly at night, when the Maoists found it easier to abduct their targets and eliminate them, the SP said.
