In a rare case of “reverse trap”, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two persons for allegedly offering ₹22 lakh in bribe to a Superintendent in GST Intelligence.
The accused named Ram Sevak Singh and Sachin Kumar Gupta were arrested in Delhi, said an agency official, adding that the official is posted in West Bengal.
“In a commendable act of integrity, the Superintendent in GST Intelligence played a pivotal role in the CBI operation that led to the arrest of two private individuals on a bribery charge. The official, who was conducting an inquiry into alleged tax evasion by several online companies, was approached to favour the firms in exchange for a bribe. Upholding the highest professional and ethical standards, the official immediately lodged a formal complaint with the CBI,” the official said.
Based on the complaint, the CBI laid a “reverse trap” and arrested the two accused while they were offering and paying the bribe to the complainant.
