Heavy rain lashed parts of Mulakalapalli, Aswaraopet and Dammapeta mandals in Bhadradri Kothagudem district in the early hours of Monday, causing several streams to overflow, disrupting vehicular movement in many areas of the district.

In Mulakalapalli mandal, traffic movement was affected between Chaparalapalli and Madharam after the swollen Pamuleru stream flooded a culvert on Monday morning.

According to sources, a low-level causeway near Vagoddugudem village was flooded, cutting off road links to more than a dozen villages for several hours.

Even as the Godavari followed a downward trend at Bhadrachalam on Monday evening, its tributary – Taliperu river flowed in full vigour, aided by heavy inflows from its catchment areas, at Pedamidisileru village in Charla mandal in the upstream through the day.

Water level in the Godavari at the temple town receded slightly and hovered just a few notches above the first flood warning level of 43 feet at 7 p.m. on Monday.

As many as 16 crest gates of the Taliperu reservoir were lifted for about 3 feet height on Monday. The discharge of flood water into the river course was about 29,523 cusecs at 7 p.m. on Monday.
