A minor-girl gave birth to a premature baby at home in Shivamogga on Friday (August 29, 2025). The baby is under intensive care at a hospital in Shivamogga.
The parents did not know that the girl, a high school student, was seven months pregnant. It is said the girl had skipped school, complaining of stomach pain, for the last two days. They took her to the hospital after she gave birth to the male baby. Both the girl and baby are doing well. Shivamogga SP G.K. Mithun Kumar said the police had registered a case. Further investigation into the case was on.
Expressing shock over the incident, Shashidhar Kosambe, a member of Karnataka State Commission for Child Rights, said the police delayed acting on the case. “The police should have booked the case under the POCSO Act within 24 hours after the incident came to light,” he said.
Further, he appealed to the parents to take their children into confidence and observe their physical growth. “In the interest of the children, the parents have to take responsibility. They should play a role in spreading awareness against sexual abuse among children,” he added.
