Prohibitory orders have been imposed in Nellore district after a video of three rowdy-sheeters discussing murdering Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy went viral on social media.

Superintendent of Police G. Krishna Kanth said that the video came to their notice and the police would take appropriate action in this regard after a thorough investigation.

Section 30 of the Indian Police Act has been imposed in the district to maintain law and order, he said.

Expressing concern over the video, the followers and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists reached the MLA’s office on Saturday morning.

“I am not scared of such threats. After I left YSRCP, I and my family members received similar threats. Two of my gunmen were removed. I surrendered the remaining two. Neither was I cowed down then, nor am I now. My followers are my strength. I am taking all precautions. So there is no need to worry,” Mr. Sridhar Reddy told his followers.

Referring to the rowdy-sheeters, the MLA said that he was eager to know who would give them money to murder him. “The police should investigate and find out who the real culprits are,” he said.

He accused the YSRCP leaders of spreading false narratives on social media and “through their publications”.

“The YSRCP leaders are spreading false propaganda, painting my younger brother Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy as a conspirator in this entire episode. It is them (YSRCP) who are involved in the politics of killing people in their houses for gaining power. This is not the tradition of my family,” Mr. Sridhar Reddy told the media later.
