Thiruvananthapuram: A youth, who was injured after a two-wheeler knocked him down while crossing the road near Enchakkal bypass on Saturday night, was killed after a speeding ambulance ran over him.
Ananthu, 23, of Kunnil Veedu at Asan Nagar near Muttathara, was crossing the road when a two-wheeler trying to enter the service road from the national highway struck him.The rider fled without helping him.
As Ananthu lay injured in the middle of the road, an ambulance ran over him. He was soon rushed to the hospital, but his life could not be saved.
Police have arrested the ambulance driver, Vishnu, 28, a Muttathara native, and search has been intensified to trace the two-wheeler rider who actually caused the accident.
The ambulance driver was arrested under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 106 (1) for causing death by negligence and 281 for rash driving also under sections 134 (A) and 134 (B) of The Motor Vehicle Act for not ensuring medical assistance to the victim and also for not informing nearby police station about the accident.
Ananthu was a private firm employee.
His body was sent to relatives after postmortem and inquest proceedings at the medical college hospital.
