The State government, which rolled out five guarantee schemes in 2023 after coming to power, has so far spent ₹97,813 crore on their implementation.

While the biggest outgo has been for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme to the 1.24 crore women head of the family contributing to ₹50,005 crore of the total amount spent on guarantees, 1.64 crore households have benefitted from the Gruha Jyothi scheme of free electricity that has contributed to ₹18,139 crore. The Shakti scheme that entails free travel for women has benefitted 544 crore beneficiaries and the government has spent ₹13,903 crore on the scheme.

The Anna Bhagya, which provided for 5 kg free rice per person per month, has benefitted 72.02 crore beneficiaries and the government has spent ₹11,821.17 crore.

The Yuva Nidhi, a financial assistance for unemployed graduates and diploma holders, has recorded 2.55 lakh beneficiaries on whom the government spent ₹623 crore.

The government released the data after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday reviewed the schemes. He directed officials to remove the names of deceased beneficiaries by drawing up a list at the panchayat level and the information should be passed on to the banks.

“The deletion and addition of beneficiaries should be taken up at the panchayat level,” he added.

The Chief Minister also directed the officials to remove the confusion over those filing GST returns from receiving the Gruha Lakshmi benefits. He also instructed the officials to remove ineligible persons from having the BPL cards based on the guidelines for the same. While promising to look into the supply of other foodrains based on the geography instead of rice, he also directed the officials to ensure action against rice being sold illegally.
