The Indian Army moved with “rhythmic precision” during Operation Sindoor, demonstrating synergy from soldier to commander and involving the civil and state administration, Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, said on Friday (September 5, 2025).
He was speaking at the launch of a book titled, Operation Sindoor: The Untold Stories of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan, written by Lt. Gen. K.J.S. Dhillon (Retd), at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi.

“The book is a tribute to the Army’s courage and professionalism, particularly along the Line of Control. It brings out aspects usually untold due to uniform restrictions, and offers insights into the challenges, emotions, losses and gains of such operations,” General Dwivedi said.
‘Strategic clarity’
He noted that every action — and even deliberate inaction — during Operation Sindoor carried long-term implications, demanding careful consideration of time, space, resources, and objectives. “This operation reflects India’s resolve, guided by strategic clarity and a whole-of-nation approach,” he added.
Gen. Dwivedi said there were no precedents for such an operation. “I spoke to many veterans on April 22 and 23, including those who had served in those areas, to explore available options. Several brilliant suggestions came in, and they were integrated as per the requirement,” he recalled.
The Army Chief described the book as “foundational”, setting a benchmark for future operations and serving as a reference for research scholars and military strategists. He said it also offers lessons in narrative management, media engagement, and international relations during testing times.
