The Tolichowki police have arrested a 36-year-old domestic help for stealing gold ornaments weighing 30 tolas, valued at around ₹30 lakh, from her employer’s house. The ornaments were recovered intact.
According to an officer from Tolichowki police, on August 20, Mir Shafi Ali Khan, claimed that his mother’s gold ornaments were missing from their almirah at their residence in Tolichowki. The family noticed the theft while preparing to attend a function. The missing jewellery included chains, bangles, rings, earrings, and sets studded with emeralds, pearls, and rubies.
Following investigation, the police apprehended the accused, identified as Sabhia Begum, a resident of Nizam Colony, Tolichowki. She was found in possession of some of the stolen ornaments near a jewellery shop. During questioning, she admitted to committing the theft to settle debts, including her daughter’s college fee. Police said she had mortgaged part of the jewellery with a private financier and a jeweller to raise money. The ornaments, weighing about 300 grams, were recovered intact.
