A 61-year-old man was pushed to death in a road rage incident in a trivial row over parking near a private hospital where he had come for treatment, on Deve Gowda Road in R. T. Nagar in the early hours of Wednesday. The accused, now arrested, works as a delivery executive in the city.
The victim, Syed Nisar Ahmed, 61, a resident of Kauser Nagar, suffering from paralysis and breathing issues had come to the hospital in a car with his son and son-in-law for consultation. The victim and his son noticed that the accused had parked his scooter obstructing the path and reportedly asked him to move it aside, so that they could park their car in front of the hospital as the victim was ill and not able to walk properly.
Heated arguments ensued, and in the melee, the accused accompanied by his female friend allegedly assaulted the victim and pushed him to the ground. While Nasir Ahmed fell down and developed complications, his son, who tried to resist, was also pushed down and sustained a ligament injury. The duo was rushed to emergency, where Nasir succumbed to death.
People who gathered at the scene, caught the accused and handed them over to the police. The accused have been identified as Abdul Shariff, 30, a resident of Hebbal working as a delivery executive, and his friend Tehreen Fathima, 26, a resident of J.C. Nagar. They too had come to the hospital for consultation, the police said.
According to the police, Nisar Ahmed, who was unwell was brought to the hospital by his family around 1.30 a.m. on Wednesday. Just 100 metres away from the hospital, the family’s car was blocked by Shariff’s two-wheeler, as the accused were talking by the roadside. When Nisar Ahmed’s son asked them to move the vehicle, a quarrel broke out between the two. The heated argument escalated, and the duo allegedly assaulted Nisar Ahmed and his son.
The doctors suspect that Nasir might have died due to a possible cardiac arrest, though the exact cause of death will be ascertained after post-mortem.
Based on the complaint by his son, the police have registered a case charging the accused under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023. The duo has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
