Indira Gandhi endeared herself to the poor people by implementing pro-poor schemes to eradicate poverty and the Congress government is steadfastly implementing Indiramma housing programme in Telangana to fulfill housing dreams of all eligible poor people to live with self-respect, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said.

The Chief Minister participated in the housewarming ceremony of the beneficiaries of Indiramma houses in Bendalapadu village in Chandrugonda mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Wednesday. Of the total 312 Indiramma houses sanctioned in the village, a little over 70 houses have already been completed.

A festive atmosphere prevailed in the village on the occasion with the beneficiaries giving a warm welcome to the Chief Minister on his arrival to their village.

Minister for Revenue, Housing and Information & Public Relations Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Minister for Animal Husbandry and the district in-charge minister Vakiti Srihari, Khammam MP R. Raghuram Reddy and others accompanied the Chief Minister.

Addressing a well-attended public meeting at Damaracherla village later, the Chief minister said the then Congress government implemented the Indiramma housing scheme in a saturation mode by completing around 25 lakh houses from 2004 to 2014 following a padayatra conducted by then Chief Minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy in the undivided United Andhra Pradesh.

The BRS rulers shattered the hopes of the homeless poor people for nearly 10 years, he charged, adding that the current Congress government revived the Indiramma scheme to fulfill the aspirations of poor people.

4.5 lakh houses have already been sanctioned across the State. Of these, 2.05 lakh houses are under various stages of construction. Financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each has been directedly credited into the accounts of nearly 1.05 lakh beneficiaries in four installments.

The crucial task of providing roof over the heads of poor people has been entrusted to Mr. Srinivas Reddy, he said, appreciating the latter for his consistent efforts in resolving the land disputes of lakhs of farmers by replacing Dharani with Bhu Bharati and sanctioning 4.5 lakh houses to poor people under the Indiramma Indlu scheme.

Our people’s government is relentlessly striving to ensure welfare of all by adopting the inclusive welfare and development model he said, outlining various flagship schemes of the State government like fine rice to ration card holders, free power of 200 units per month to BPL families, crop loan waiver and Rythu Bharosa, among others.

Brushing aside the allegations made by some BRS leaders against him, he said, “Looted money led to internal bickering in a family and they are making baseless charges against us over their internal squabbling. Don’t drag us into your internal family feud.”
