NEW DELHI: Further expanding the ‘Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Program’ (FTI-TTP), which uses biometric authentication to enable faster immigration of pre-verified flyers through automated e-gates, home minister Amit Shah will Thursday launch the facility at Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Tiruchirappalli and Amritsar international airports, reports Bharti Jain. The programme was launched at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on June 22, 2024. Earlier this year, it was extended to seven more international airports – covering the key cities of Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin and Ahmedabad. Shah will conduct Thursday’s inauguration programme for five more airports via video-conferencing, taking the total number of airports covered so far to 13. The plan is to further expand it to cover 21 major airports of the country.

A senior MHA officer said FTI-TTP has enabled 60% faster immigration clearance for those who enrolled for it.The FTI-TTP programme is a significant initiative under the ‘Viksit Bharat’@2047 vision. Its objective is to provide world-class immigration facilities to travellers, making international travel seamless and secure. Both Indian citizens and ‘overseas citizen of India’ cardholders can avail of the facility free of cost. The plan is to eventually extend it to foreign nationals as well.To enrol, applicants need to complete registration by filling in their details and uploading the required documents on the online portal. The biometric data of registered applicants is captured either at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), or while passing through the airport.
